Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

The Nicolet iS10 FT-IR spectrometer (ThermoFisher Scientific) is a complete infrared spectroscopy system for routine analytical needs. The Nicolet iS10 delivers the highest confidence in the verification and identification of materials. Optimized for 7800-350 cm-1 spectral range, allows for IR absorbance measurements in the transmission configuration, for samples which can be deposited on transparent substrates or prepared as KBr pellets. Moreover, our spectrometer is equipped with the VariGATR grazing angle ATR accessory, allowing for absorbance measurements in Attenuated Total Reflectance configuration, which virtually requires no sample preparation. With this accessory, which uses Ge crystal with high refractive index, it is even possible to measure IR absorbance of single monolayers on semiconductor (e.g. Si) and metallic substrates. The VariGAT is excellent for rapid, repeatable measurements and provides at least an order of magnitude increase in sensitivity relative to grazing angle methods.
FTIR absorbance spectra measured for (a) Tb:SiNx film annealed at 1100 °C shortly after deposition process (b) Tb:SiNx film annealed at 1100C measured after storage in ambient atmosphere for one year (c) SiOxNy film (22.42 at. % Si, 13.410 at. % N and 41.120 at. % O). Spectra (b) and (c) were used for the purpose of FTIR absorbance discussion. Dashed arrow represents the shift of Si-N absorbance peak and is only a guide to the eye. The spectra were vertically shifted for clarity. [Thin Solid Films, 675, 5 (2019)]
